I read on the paper that the 37th book fair will start this Wednesday at Kuwait International Fair, I’ve to admit that I don’t read books like before but I’m planning to pay the fair a visit. They say over 500 publishers (both Arabic & English) will be participating and that this year’s fair will have more entertaining activities for visitors. I hope the censorship isn’t strict like 2010 and 2011 fairs.

Where: Kuwait International Fair

When: 21th November to 1st December

I received a new cookbook today, I wasn’t interested at first but as I started leafing through the pages I got interested. I usually try to avoid traditional Kuwaiti and Arabic meals when eating with family because they are loaded with calories, but deep inside I wished if I could join them without feeling guilty, well this book helps you prepare healthy Arabic and international dishes that are low in calories while keeping the great taste (according to them).

The book is by Mariam Al Othman, and is in both Arabic and English languages. It provides 46 healthy low calorie recipes for starters and main dishes along with the nutritional values. There are also cooking tips and servings information, paper quality is good too. I asked how much is the book? They said KD5 and is avaialble at all Diet Care boutiques, I will try some of the book’s recipes to see if they taste good and healthy and will update you.

I received emails asking me why Kuwait National Library hasn’t opened to the public yet? I remember it was opened by H.H Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah in February 2011 and I had a tour inside it and they told me it will publicly open in less than a month, but from what I understood that its not opened till now.

I hope there are no issues, I’ll try to contact them sometime this week to find out why. See my previous post here

We got invited by Dr. Naif Al-Mutawa for the VIP preview of The 99: Unbound film under the patronage of HH Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, The Emir of Kuwait.

I’m sure many of you already heard or read about The 99 which was first launched in 2006 as comics featuring a team of superheroes based on Islamic culture and religion.

Dr. Naif was highly recognized in the U.S and was hosted by TED conference and honored by President Obama; his main objective is to change the perception of Islam in the west.

The 99: Unbound story revolves about characters that has special powers and use it for the good. The comics were later turned into a film that made its debut a the New York Film Festival and due for release in Kuwait on the 25th February in both Arabic and English languages.

I liked the concept, the graphics might not compete with Disney or Pixar but I’m very positive.

Today we witnessed the launching of first ever classic and historical car magazine not only in Kuwait but also in the Middle East.

I loved the idea especially that the magazine is free and available in both Arabic and English languages.

I picked a copy and saw that it was made of high quality materials and contains many interesting topics, pictures, stories, interviews; classic cars lovers will like it.

The new magazine will be issued quarterly and can be found at 400 Diwanias across Kuwait, Sahara Club, Sultan Gallery, Tillal Gallery, Dar Al Funoon.

BananaQ8 blog wishes to thank Historical, Vintage & Classic Cars Museum for the invitation.

My buddy sent me photos showing that the shutting-down of Kuwait Virgin Megastore has already started, an employee told him that maybe they will re-open at the Avenues in the future.

Thanks [Hasan]

I found that the Avenues have just launched a monthly magazine that covers everything about the mall and features the new in-store, mall news, offers, best-seller items, new products, new stores opening.

I grabbed one and started checking it out, frankly I found it interesting and informative with over 90 pages, the editor is Waleed Al Shurian. The new magazine is available at the mall’s reception for free.

I also liked how they quoted bloggers, thanks to the Avenues management for this idea.
